Salish Native American Imbricated Basket, Antique
This Salish Basket is from the early 1900s. It has hard sides and a pedestal base. There is a three color imbricated design and some remaining rim loops. It is 6.5" by 6". The basket shows signs of wear consistent with use and its age of approximately 100 years.

The Salish are Native Americans and Native Canadians from the Northwest. The Salish basket makers were specialists in coiled root basketry. They often used strips of natural red and black-dyed Bitter Cherry bark and straw-coloured grass stalks for decoration. This is a true historical artifact.
